Almost 100 years old… the Bonniebrook Lodge is the oldest and longest running accommodation provider in the Sunshine Coast.

The area where Bonniebook Lodge now sits was called The Gower Point Lodge in the early 1900's. The Lodge was run by the Chaster family who owned the lands surrounding the accommodations. The Chaster family built cottages, cabins, the lodge and a dining area. Guests from Vancouver traveled to the Lodge on steamships where they were greeted by Lodge staff in rowboats.

Our History

For nearly a century, Bonniebrook Lodge has stood as the Sunshine Coast’s oldest and longest-running accommodation provider—a place where the natural beauty of Gibsons meets a legacy of warm hospitality.

Early Beginnings (Early 1900s)

The land where Bonniebrook Lodge sits today was first known as The Gower Point Lodge. Operated by the Chaster family, who owned much of the surrounding property, the area featured hand-built cottages, cabins, and a dining hall. Guests journeyed from Vancouver by steamship, where lodge staff met them at the shoreline in rowboats—an early tradition of personal service that shaped the lodge’s identity.

In 1929, the original lodge burned down, but was lovingly re-built by Mr. Vernon - a family which still calls Gibsons their home. The original portion of the restored lodge still exists today as the entrance and main dining room floor of the current Bonniebrook.

Rebuilding & Renewal (1929)

In 1929, the original lodge was lost to fire. It was lovingly rebuilt by the Vernon family—longtime locals who still call Gibsons home. Portions of that restored lodge still stand today, forming the entrance and main dining room floor of the present-day Bonniebrook.

The Lodge was then sold to the Williamson family in the 1940's. The family restored the lodge and offered dining, tea parties and card games as part of the Lodge's services.

Mid-Century Life at the Lodge (1940s–1990s)

The Williamson family acquired the lodge in the 1940s, revitalizing it with charming offerings such as dining, tea parties, and card games. Over the decades that followed, Bonniebrook changed hands several times. The property evolved to include campsites, cabins, and a general store, all while maintaining its reputation as a peaceful coastal retreat.

A major renovation in 2000 introduced the top floor suites and the Romance Suites at the rear of the property, followed by further restoration of the original main floors in 2008.

A New Chapter (2015–Present)

Hosts Lei and Mei became the new owners of Bonniebrook Lodge in 2015. Under their leadership, the lodge transitioned from a family-style operation to a modern, professionally managed boutique property. Their vision brought growth, structure, and a renewed commitment to excellence. Since 2022, three new cottages have been added to meet increasing demand.

Today, thanks to a dedicated team and continually evolving hospitality standards, Bonniebrook Lodge continues to offer exceptional cuisine, luxurious suites, and the same heartfelt service that began with the Chaster family over a century ago.
